Pakistan PMLN Decide To Choose Finance Minister Ishaq Dar As Caretaker PM

Pakistan Interim PM: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) is considering proposing the name of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for the post of Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan. This was said in a media report on Sunday (July 23). According to a report in The Express Tribune, Dar’s name has come up for discussion at a time when Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government is deliberating on making changes to the Election Act 2017.

Making changes in the Election Act 2017 will empower the upcoming caretaker dispensation to take decisions beyond its constitutional mandate. This has been done to ensure continuity of the recently launched economic plan and to expedite the process of getting foreign investment in government-owned entities.

Amendment in Election Act 2017
The Express Tribune newspaper quoted sources as saying that the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) is considering proposing Dar’s name for the caretaker prime minister as part of a plan to ensure the implementation of economic policies. However, a final decision regarding Dar’s candidature will be taken next week in consultation with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

PPP is one of the two main coalition partners. PML-N sources told that the government is considering to amend Section 230 of the Election Act 2017. In this amendment, a provision has been made to give the caretaker system the right to take economic decisions. These amendments are likely to be presented in the National Assembly next week, so that the caretaker government can take necessary decisions to improve the economy.

decisions in economic matters
A senior member of the cabinet in Pakistan said on the condition of anonymity that Pakistan’s economy is going through such a phase where matters cannot be left for three months only on the system of taking day-to-day decisions. He said the caretaker government should have more decision-making powers in economic matters to ensure that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program remains on track and the country completes its second review in November.
