(Reuters) – Apollo Global Management (NYSE:) Inc co-founder Leon Black paid $62.5 million to the US Virgin Islands to avoid any legal claims related to the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking investigation, The New York Times reported on Friday.

The Times obtained a copy of the settlement agreement from the Virgin Islands government through a public records request. The deal was done in January

A spokesman for Black confirmed in an emailed statement to Reuters that Black had settled with the Virgin Islands, noting that the settlement contained “no suggestion that Mr. Black was aware of or had participated in any misconduct.”

The spokesperson further said that, as was previously known, Black had paid Epstein for “legitimate financial advisory services” and that Black had “resolved potential claims (of the Virgin Islands) arising from the unintended consequences of those payments.”

News of Black’s settlement follows a demand from the Virgin Islands earlier this month that JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: ) pay at least $190 million and possibly more to settle its lawsuit accusing the largest US bank of condoning the sex trafficking of the infamous late financier Epstein. The bank has denied that it knew about abuse by Epstein, who was a customer from 1998 to 2013.

Epstein killed himself in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.

In May a New York state judge dismissed a lawsuit against Black, 71, for defamation of a woman by falsely claiming he tried to extort her after she accused him of rape, which she denied.

Black still faces trial from another woman, Cheri Pearson, who accuses him of raping her at Epstein’s mansion in Manhattan two decades ago. Black has denied any wrongdoing.

According to Forbes magazine, Black is worth $10.1 billion. He leaves Apollo in 2021.
