State Disaster Management Ministry spokesman Shafiullah Rahimi said that the people missing due to floods are being searched. Teams are engaged for relief and rescue. Due to torrential rains, the rescue operation is facing a lot of difficulties.

40 people missing in flood

Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Sunday (July 23), “Around 40 people are missing after flash floods hit Jalrej district of Maidan Wardak province, west of Kabul late on Saturday. All relevant authorities have been ordered to provide necessary assistance to the people in the affected areas.”

Governor’s office gave information

The provincial governor’s office said in a statement that hundreds of houses were either damaged or destroyed due to the floods. It is believed that the missing people are under the debris of the collapsed houses. It has also been said in the statement that hundreds of hectares of farmers’ crops have been destroyed due to the flood. The highway between the capital Kabul and the central Bamiyan province is also closed due to the worsening situation.

heavy rain expected

According to the Afghanistan Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rains in the coming days, in which case the situation may worsen. According to the Meteorological Department, about 25 mm of rain was recorded in Takhar, Kunar, Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Parwan, and several other provinces of Afghanistan last month.
