(Reuters) – Binance and its CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao plan to file a complaint from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) accusing the crypto exchange of violating the Commodity Exchange Act and certain related federal regulations.

According to a court filing on Monday, Binance has to file its response to the CFTC complaint on July 27 and plans to seek dismissal.

The CFTC sued Binance and Zhao, the world’s largest crypto exchange, in March for operating what the regulator alleged was an “illegal” exchange and a “sham” compliance program.

In its complaint, the CFTC said that from at least July 2019 to the present, Binance “offered and executed commodity derivatives transactions on behalf of US persons” in violation of US law.

The CFTC and Binance did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Binance and Zhao were sued in June by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly running a “web of fraud”, which brought 13 charges against Binance, Zhao and the operator of its allegedly independent US exchange.

Reuters has previously reported that Binance is also under investigation by the Department of Justice for suspected money laundering and sanctions violations.
