The Government of India has taken a big decision regarding the export of rice in the past. Under this, the Center banned the export of all types of raw rice (Non-Basmati White Rice) except Basmati rice. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the increase in domestic demand and control over retail prices during the upcoming festive season. The major impact of this ban is being seen in the US markets and there is a rush among people to buy rice in supermarkets.

Crowd gathered in the markets to buy rice
In a statement issued by the Food Ministry last week, it was said that no change has been made in the export policy of Basmati rice and all types of Usna rice. That is, only the export of non-basmati raw rice has been banned. Although basmati rice is exported from India on a large scale. In view of the increase in domestic prices of non-basmati rice, the government has decided to ban the export. After this, videos of chaos created to buy rice in America are going viral on social media.

Seeing the videos and pictures of shopping that are going viral on social media, the impact of India’s ban on the export of rice can be gauged. Local people are sharing videos of the stores there on Twitter. In the reports related to this, it is even being said that people are queuing up to buy rice after taking holidays. Inside the store, each person is seen buying 10-10 packets of rice. Here, a packet of 9 kg rice is being sold for $27 (Rs 2215).

However, we are not verifying the videos and pictures which are going viral on social media. But it is being told that people outside the super market are forced to stand in long queues to buy rice. Significantly, people of Indian origin live in America on a large scale and rice is an important part of their everyday food.

There is a huge consumption of rice exported from India in America and due to the decision of India’s Rice Ban, such situations have arisen there. It is also being told that in view of this crowd gathering at the stores, rice is being sold at high and arbitrary prices at many places.

Highest exports from India to these 5 countries
The share of non-basmati white rice in the total rice exported from the country is about 25 percent. The total export of non-basmati white rice from India was USD 4.2 million in 2022-23 as compared to USD 2.62 million in the previous financial year i.e. 2021-22. India exports the most non-basmati white rice to Thailand, Italy, Spain, Sri Lanka and the United States.

In the first quarter of the current financial year, about 15.54 lakh tonnes of white rice has been exported, which was only 11.55 lakh tonnes in the year-ago period, that is, there has been an increase of 35 per cent in exports in the first quarter of the current financial year.

Because of this the government has banned
Not only in these five countries, India exports rice to more than 100 countries of the world. India has been the largest exporter of rice since 2012. Now, due to the sudden decisions of the Government of India to ban exports, such situations can be seen in countries other than America as well. Let us inform here that the government has decided to curb rising prices in the domestic market by banning the export of non-basmati white rice.

In the last few days, there is a sharp increase in the prices of rice, this month the price of rice has increased by 10 to 20 percent. However, export of rice will be allowed with certain conditions. If the loading of rice in ships has started before the notification, then its export will be allowed.
