Italy Cocaine: 5.3 tons of cocaine has been found floating near Italy’s Sicily Coast. This consignment of cocaine has been seized by the police. Along with this, five people have also been arrested. According to Italy’s customs police, the estimated value of this consignment is 850 million euros ($946 million).

According to the police, the cocaine consignment seized on Friday is the biggest ever. According to the report, the police were tracking a ship which had departed from South America. The police raided this ship in the early hours of Wednesday. Actually, when the police raided the ship, an attempt was being made to shift the cocaine consignment from the ship. According to the police, Italy’s Maritime Surveillance Aircraft were also eyeing the cocaine stockpile.

five people arrested

From the spot, the police arrested five people with a large amount of cocaine, including two Tunisians, one Italian, one Albanian and one French national. The regional president of Sicily, Renato Schiffani, praised the policemen involved in the operation. He said in one of his statements that drug addiction is a curse for our society, which is promoted by unscrupulous people, who trade in death by crushing hopes and destroying many families.

Cocaine was also seized in April

Significantly, in April also the Italian police seized 2 tonnes of cocaine. Which was termed as the biggest stock of drugs by the Customs Department. The caught cocaine was then sealed in 70 waterproof packets and thrown into the Mediterranean Sea, which floated towards Italy. Cocaine being caught from the sea like this is not a new thing. Earlier in February, New Zealand had recovered 3,500 kg of cocaine from the Pacific Ocean.
